Stupidity has no (upper) Age Limit

Good morning

Yesterday evening I was fortunate enough to be out with some friends of mine at one of my favourite local drinking establishments, notable for its small size, quiet atmosphere and out of the way location along with a very respectable selection of spirits. These are all things I actively seek out in a bar but rarely find. The evening went very well for the most part, the conversation was at times academic, at others simply entertaining, the alcohol consumed was of great quality and the serving staff were unfailingly helpful and polite as ever.

Imagine my dismay when, as the hour grew late a group of gentlemen entered the the premises, immediately shattering the carefully maintained ambience with very loud and obnoxious conversation. As irritating as this was to me, there are no rules per-say pertaining to noise levels and they are within their rights to be as loud as they choose to be, within reason of course. So as annoying as this may have been, (extremely) this act alone is not enough to warrant my venting of anger via this blog. However, as the group continued to enjoy themselves they, as such folk are wont to do, got stupid(er). At one point, one of the party began to lie on the table, as the rest of the groups shook some kind of powder (what looked to be icing sugar) into his mouth over a naked flame, resulting in some sort of fire breathing effect. Not only did this seem about as mature an act as attempting to set flatulence alight, it seemed about as stupid! To add insult to injury these 'gentlemen' weren't students or young professionals (from whom such behaviour might be expected, if not tolerated or forgiven), on the contrary, they at least outwardly appeared to be all professional people aged between 30 and 45! (Although at this point use of the word 'professional' to describe them may be too generous).

No you didn't read that wrong, these men were all of a relatively advanced age, but apparently were still foolish enough to play with fire in a venue where the vast majority of furnishings are made of untreated wood... Unfortunately, nothing went wrong and they all exited the bar unscathed, continuing to be loud, boorish imbeciles presumably long into the night. Mores the pity, all involved would have made marvellous candidates for Darwin awards. (If you don't know what they are, google is very much your friend, enjoy).

So amidst my disappointment that no one involved in this moronic act reaped their just reward my group left the bar and parted ways.

Can't have everything go right in one evening I suppose

Thanks for reading,
